Two

November 9, 2024

The number 2 has always played a significant role in my life - even before I began my journey with my two-wheeled companion. How could it be otherwise, when I was born on February 22nd? A numerologist once told me that the number 2 symbolizes doubt - a trait I often wrestle with, especially when making decisions. If you believe in numerology, it’s no surprise that my birthdate, filled with 2s, might reflect my ongoing struggles with doubt.

The number 2 is also said to symbolize connection - the concept of being two, together.

Ideally, I would have undertaken this entire journey with Sofia by my side. Unfortunately, for various reasons, this isn't possible. That makes the times we do share - like in Trieste, now in Athens, and especially during the three months we’ll spend together starting mid-January - all the more precious.

Even when we are apart, we are a team.

Sofia has been essential to my journey so far. She is my guiding conscience when it comes to my gear - something she demonstrated during the preparation phase, from organizing to packing. Even now, she probably knows my equipment better than I do. Sofia also provides invaluable support for the website: laying out blog posts, enhancing them with photos, translating them into English, and handling other updates. Without Sofia, there would be no website or blog.

Beyond that, she supports me daily with logistics, problem-solving, and moral encouragement.

Knowing that she’s there, supporting me, strengthens me and helps me on my journey. I’m deeply grateful for her support.

In Athens, we visit the Acropolis and the Parthenon, stroll through the streets of the Plaka and Anafiotika neighborhoods, and watch the runners of the Athens Marathon 2024 cross the finish line. We savor our (too few) hours together, cherishing every moment. Our three days in Athens pass far too quickly. They were beautiful and deeply emotional. Saying goodbye is incredibly difficult for both of us.

These days have been meaningful - without a doubt.
