Dance

At the Sea Organ in Zadar, the waves create the music while nature sets the rhythm. This concept is similar when cycling long distances.

Weather and wind are essential considerations in daily planning, dictating the pace of the journey.

Ignoring these factors can lead to unnecessary struggles or even danger, especially on mountainous routes. It’s also vital to listen to and care for your body, which pedals and converts food into energy to cover all those kilometers and elevation gains. The body has its own rhythm, too. It’s like a dance between the body and nature, and they are most harmonious when moving to the same beat.

We take advantage of the one day with little wind along the Croatian coast to travel as far south as possible. Strong south winds are forecast for the following days, which would mean headwinds for us - and that’s exactly what happens. Fortunately, we don’t encounter much headwind that day, as we soon turn inland toward Bosnia and Herzegovina, away from the impressive coastline and its charming villages.

Just before Mostar, after crossing the border, I begin to feel pain in my right knee. I realize that my legs and body need a rest day. The weather is expected to be overcast the next day. I look for an accommodation in Mostar for two nights. The body and nature are in sync, moving together in a smooth dance.
