Little

On a whim, we decide to detour to Krka National Park, famous for its waterfalls. Along the way, we follow gravel paths. Martin is in his element - finally, some proper gravel stretches! I’m happy to see him enjoying it. The path gradually narrows, eventually becoming a narrow hiking trail littered with rocks and roots. We have no choice but to get off and push our bikes, and in some places, we even have to lift our fully loaded bikes over obstacles.

The waterfall, however, turns out to be an overpriced tourist trap - 20 euros just to see it! Martin is visibly unhappy. I tell him to make the best of it since we've already paid, trying to explain the sunk cost principle, though with only moderate success.

The water flow is unusually strong, and parts of the walking path are slightly flooded.

The power of water always impresses me, though I've seen much more spectacular waterfalls.

In a wooded area beside the path, I discover a sea of flowers - tiny violet blooms scattered everywhere. None of the other tourists seem to notice. It’s always worth keeping your eyes and ears open, I think. Sometimes, you discover something unexpected, something entirely different from what you came to see.

The next day, we set our sights on Split but find ourselves battling a strong headwind.

In the middle of the road, I spot a tiny green creature - a praying mantis.

I wonder what it could be praying for - maybe to avoid getting run over, not a bad idea as it stands there motionless. I almost feel like joining in to pray for the wind to stop, but there’s no point, so I let it be.

Back at the coast, just before Split, the weather warms up. It’s warm enough that, for the first time on this trip, I can take off my sports leggings and keep riding without them.

A small joy to end the day.
